devil's tower

The Devil's tower

This geological formation, a laccolithic butte, resides in the Bear Lodge Mountains, above the Belle Fourche River Valley, outside of Hulett and Sundance, WY.
The tower is covered in vertically parallel grooves on all sides, domed on top, and is held in great spiritual esteem by the Northern Plains Indians. It's beauty stands stark against the surrounding Black Hills. More information about the cultural significance and history of the tower can be found on the National Park Service's website.
